yeah, i know what you mean. In actuallality you don't want to die at all but you also hate the depression and life seems not worth it. but then again when allot of people tell you stuff to support you and keep you from commiting suicide you eventualy get better when you become an adult... but more on that later. mony people when they cut themselves it is just a cry for help, they should know that cutting yourself is a painful way to die and then they have to sit there and bleed to death which takes time, so its just a cry for some help. When people really want to die they research on it, like I did and I found out barbituates are the way to go because you just fall asleep and never wake up - no pain

i highly doubt the no pain thing but since i haven't done any research i won't go there...
anyhow cutting yourself as in your wrists is most definately a cry for help...let me tell you why...most people cut accross the wrist which most likely unless you live alone and don't have anyone to get worried will no work at all...you bleed to slow...the only way it can actually kill you is if you slice straight up the vein...at one point i thought that might be fun with a broken violin...yeah but i won't go into that...and i don't think it is true that everyone hurts themeselves...i never got into cutting...i think it is as trendy as goth people who shop at hot topic(no offense to anyone....but feel free to flame me if you so desire)...i usually just hold ym depressed feelings in...actually to think of it i usually hold everything in...perhaps i am a special case...but i wouldn't associate pain with depression or depression with pain...maybe the word pain should be turned to "physical harm" because a lot of depression is caused by some mental pain...anyways this is probably sounding like randonimity or rambling...so i will stop here...

i cut and it's a release when im "in that certain mode"... i dont feel it at all. just stare and breathe. i want to tell people how i feel but get really nervous about others seeing/catching me. dont know their reaction and really don't want to spontaneously talk about it and explain myself. hard to find people who think like me. abye i dont try hard enough. very glad i found my friend heather who has the same moods n shit. i dont know. hope this makes sense and doesnt sound like your typical response.

Not everyone that is depressed tries to hurt themselves. Self harm, mostly but not always, is a cry for help. It's also a sign of whats going on inside a persons head.
Its not fair to generalise

True, cat is right. Cutting is a cry for help because ther person knows they won't die from it, but even if they don't it wouldn't make a differnce.
I don't cut, but have come /really/ close. I burn. or used to... we haven't found any place to buy matches here yet, but now i know where mom's lighter is. It is most certainly a cry for help, tho i would never admit it when i'm in a low mood. It's true though, what ImDrowning said... You just don't feel it when you want it bad. Sure, with burning, you feel the pain for days, can't touch much, or run things through your hand... heck, it even hurt for my boyfriend to hold my hand afterwards sometimes...

why would it hurt him?
no no no..... **sees dangling modifier**... I meant it hurt /me/ when he tried to hold the hand that i'd scarred... make sense now?
