So I tried to add distanced to my msn list, and instead I left out part of the address and I got this british guy, who knew what TM was apparently this was not the first time someone had misread the address and talked to him. At first I was like who is this guy and why was he on my list, but after talking to him for a while hes pretty funny, we got into a conversation about canadians and brits it was great, we talked about art attack and coronation street, (they being the only british shows I watch), I learned how to spell ta ra, and I learned what Wankers meant, man it was fun.

I guess what Im trying to say is, BRITS ROCK

Not that Im prejudice I just think north america is boring and the rest of the world is so much cooler. I especially like russia too although I dont think there are any here.

we are boring...and what isn't boring here is often just plain scary (yes, guys, the civil war ended over 100 years ago...)
british tv rocks my world - if my college put bbc america on our cable, i'd be so incredibly happy.
although come to think of it, we have non-scary interesting people...you just have to look

Valaire

My favourite american accent, is maybe boston although Im partial to texas, although not actually partial to texas (no offence).

I like dannish accents too though, something that isnt so canadian always makes me feel more interested, even french accents are too canadian for me and dont even get me started on newphies.....lol.

I have a freind who lives in England and I LOVE talking to him over MSN. He's so funny. But I still love the good ol' USA. We're not boring. Just not as funny as Falwty Towers or Monty Python.

Oh aye mun, Brits ROCK! :59:

No lol, alas I'm not British myself, but I just loooove Britain and everything related to it! :D I'm a massive sucker for British accents, no other accents can compare cos British own 'em ALL! Yep, the British are dead funny and cool and wheee, sorry but I just love that country. :o I've been there once (London is da bomb, wow) but I'm bound to go back asap and check out the rest of the country, yay!

I'd really really like to learn Welsh though, pity it's not spoken much anymore. :(

Scotland is beautiful too, will visit it sometime in the future no doubt.

As for accents, I still can't tell them apart, but my favourites are deffo South English accents, mmmm!! http://www.teen-moods.net/forums/images/icons/icon11.gif

Erm, sorry I never meant to get so jumpy about this, it's just that I'm a massive fan of Britain (in case you haven't noticed)... :041:

PS: Let's not forget ALL the best writers are British, such as JK Rowling, Agatha Christie, Enid Blyton, Celia Rees, Philip Pullman, Terry Pratchett, Douglas Adams etc etc ETC!

What's not to love? :037:

Valaire
11-22-2003, 09:21 AM
Wonder Wall, ALL THOSE AUTHORS ARE BRITISH, wait all of them thats freaking great, I guess I kind of knew that, but except for Enid Blyton and Celia Rees, I have read so much of all those authors, and probably the other two I just dont remember, Monty Python and the meaning of life is so funny.

We mostly rule. But, some of us are complete idiots, like some Americans. We did win the rugby...need to make sure you guys remember that one! I have a kinda south-east London accent, mildly Cockney but more a kinda drawl. The nastiest accent gotta be from the west country, or Birmingham. Sorry if anyones from there, I know south-east London ain't pretty either but come on...

Haha those are wicked, Valaire! :D

As a matter of fact, I was planning to do sort of a research project on British slang for my English class sooo I asked (a certain) someone for a list (boy, that was ages ago) of slang terms they could think of and voila, here's some more cool stuff...

quid- one pound sterling
fiver - five pound note
jack - nothing
dab hand - skilled person at a certain task
dodgy - risky, suspicious
savvy - to understand
noggin' - Head
Geordie - person from Newcastle
div - idiot
bodge - to do a poor job
slob - lazy person
gunk - gooey liquid
gob - mouth
chump - unliked person
kip - sleep
doddle - easy
tosh - nonsense
doss - easy
caned - intoxicated
toff - upper class person with style
double Dutch - nonsense
bollocking - severe reprimand
drip - feeble, boring person
smarmy - flattering person
camp - acting gay
chin wag - conversation
have a butchers - have a look
dosh - money
gormless - foolish
flog - sell
codswallop - nonsense
minging - undesirable
argy bargy - trouble
ruckus - fight / quarrel

Try using those in your convos, haha!

Jessq
11-23-2003, 03:40 PM
I'll try and add some. Listerine means anti-american, its a long long complicated route back through ryming slang. A bird is a girl, and minging means ugly, or smelly, or bad generally...Nick means steal. Jacked and jumped mean mugged. Dog and bone means phone but that ones kinda lame. Can't think of much else.
